ContentBlocks 2.0 is now in private alpha

When we first publicly talked about the plans for ContentBlocks 2.0, the plan was to get it out in about a year. That's now 3 years ago, required a crowdfunding campaign to get enough development time booked in, and the development world looks a lot different!

Still, we kept working away at it, and we're very excited to share that ContentBlocks 2.0 is now available in private alpha for the backers. Details are in the private Slack channel. If you lost your invite, drop us an email.

In this phase, the most important aspects of our vision for 2.0 are implemented and ready to use. You can, though we don't recommend using it in production yet, build some great sites with it and hopefully see the value in the new architecture, design, and added features. 

We are still working on buttoning things up in this phase. We'll be expanding some of the input types, plugins, and new extension points for developers. We may still have a surprise or two in store, but are also very interested in gathering feedback. 

And crucially, the next step is working on the migration toolkit that allows 1.x sites to get updated to 2.0 with as little manual work as reasonably possible. Upgrading from 1.x is not yet supported, so that's very important to add soon.

If you're excited to try it out in this phase, it is still possible to join the private alpha by backing the 2.0 development. The crowdfunding campaign will close on December 31st, 2026 and includes a bunch of exclusive bonuses only available for a limited time. 

After that, the focus will shift to preparing the full stable release. We'll be sharing that at the MODXpo 2027.
